Reef Check Unveils its Official IYOR Song by Thin Ice at Manhattan Beach Concert

\"\"

The International Year of the Reef, being held throughout 2008, is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the beauty and wealth of coral reef ecosystems. Among the many groups around the world who have already begun to plan activities and coordinate efforts are Body Glove, the band Thin Ice and Reef Check. In addition to the International Declaration of Reef Rights, Reef Check has incorporated the “International Year of the Reef” song into our website and will be featuring it at various events. Russ Lesser, an active member of our Board of Directors, the President of Body Glove and a member of Thin Ice, wrote the song and, together with Thin Ice members, donated it to Reef Check. We invite you to download it at https://reefdpd.wpengine.com/involved/iyor.php.
Thin Ice sang the IYOR song for the first time at their concert on August 19th at Polliwog Park in Manhattan Beach. Prior to singing the song, Russ spoke of the importance of reef ecosystems to human wellbeing and encouraged the audience to participate in the IYOR by signing the Declaration. Russ also invited Cori, Neil, and Mary (Reef Check staff) to walk through the audience and gather signatures.   By and large, the unveiling of the IYOR song was a success and in Mary’s words, “That evening we left the park with a smile, thankful for the gorgeous weather, the music, Thin Ice’s support, and for the interest expressed by those 252 people who signed the Declaration.”
