Reef Check California Program

Job Description:

The Reef Check Foundation seeks a Volunteer Coordinator to facilitate the implementation and growth of the Reef Check California (RCCA) Program in Southern California, primarily in the Los Angeles region. The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the RCCA Southern California Regional Manager, the Director and Headquarters staff.

The Volunteer Coordinator will organize trained volunteers to conduct surveys, ensure survey teams are equipped with datasheets and survey gear and assist teams with data entry and submission. This position will require periodic travel out of the region and work on weekends.

Specific duties:
• Organize and conduct field surveys (primarily May – November)
• Assist with organization and implementation of RCCA training classes (scheduling, classroom, pool and field)
• Maintain and prepare sampling gear/supplies (printing data sheets, distributing materials to survey teams)
• Outreach activities (dive club presentations, tabling events, etc.)
• Regular communication with divers through postings on the RCCA web forum and direct communication with volunteer divers

This part time position is based out of a home office and occasionally at Reef Check Headquarters in Pacific Palisades. The candidate must be organized and capable of working independently. Successful candidates must have a strong work ethic coupled with a high level of self-motivation and enthusiasm. Significant Southern California diving experience, strong diving skills and previous scientific diving experience or RCCA certification are required. Professional dive leader (Instructor or Divemaster) and Scientific Diver certification (AAUS or equivalent) are preferred. Applicants must have their own dive gear in working order and a computer with reliable internet access.

This is a part time position (20 hours per week) at $20 per hour with 6 month contract and possibility of extension.Review of applicants will commence on March 10, 2008.
