Ruben Torres Dr. Ruben Torres - Caribbean Director

Dr. Ruben Torres is the current director for Reef Check Dominican Republic where he coordinates Reef Check activities for the Caribbean region. He completed his bachelors degree at the Universidad Autonoma de Santo Domingo (UASD) and his Ph.D. at the University of Miami. Dr. Torres collaborates with the Dominican Government to implement local conservation strategies related to the strong tourism industry and private sector. From the Dominican Republic, he works with Reef Check coordinators in the Meso-American region, South America and the wider Caribbean.
 
       
 

Angel Luis Franco - Volunteer Coordinator

Upon completion of high school in 1995, Angel Luis became a volunteer diver at the National Aquarium of Santo Domingo. A year later he began a bachelor degree in biology and joined the National Aquarium Staff. By 1999, Angel Luis had conducted more than 2000 SCUBA dives and acquired extensive knowledge of the Dominican Republic coasts and marine environment. Coupled with over 10 years experience at the Aquarium and his strong interest for conservation, he received a degree in Natural Resource Conservation at the University Experimental Felix Adam (UNEFA), and currently engages in the business of network marketing. In April 2007, he joined Reef Check Dominican Republic as the Field Coordinator and administers activities with volunteers and helps to manage the operations of the Foundation.
